Hello Wheelchair Tennis Fans!

What a great start this year for Colorado wheelchair tennis players and supporters.

To bring everyone up to speed, the CWTF had its annual board of directors meeting in February with several members thankfully returning in 2017. A solid financial footing was reported. We’re again blessed to have USTA Colorado provide a yearly operational grant to the CWTF for 2017. We also received a one-time national grant from the USTA (Grass-roots committee) as well as a large contribution from a new player that just joined the CWTF. All in all, we’re very lucky to have these funding sources, some recurring- which helps provide needed financial support for our programs.

Our 2017 events and program schedule will include participation in several Colorado based tournaments, specifically the Babolat at RMTC, the Austin Scott in Boulder, the Arvada (NJTC) 4x4 Tournament and of course the Western Slope Open in Grand Junction this July.

On the recreational side of the game, several local clinics will continue throughout the year leveraging our talented group of wheelchair tennis instructors. We’re hoping to introduce the game to both junior and adult participants, taking advantage of several used demo-wheelchairs we’ve attained recently. Other outreach events will also be attended by CWTF members including a junior sports camp and support for USTA-CO diversity Tennis-Fest.

One of our core-sponsors, APEX Recreation District at Arvada Tennis Center—is in the process of renovating its facility and adding a world class indoor structure. Because of logistical management issues, the board has decided to forgo our yearly One-Up, One-Down league this season at ATC. We may find a work-around, so please stay tuned.

Finally, our yearly fundraising event will take place at Lakewood Tennis Center on June-3, 2017 (Sat) from 12-4pm. We’ll be sending out flyers and online registration updates in the coming weeks. It should be another enjoyable afternoon and a great way to support the CWTF.

Hope to see you on the courts and keep rolling!

Bill Trubey,

CWTF Executive Director
